William Shakespeare’s

Twelfth Night

or

What You Will

Edited by Eric Parness

Considered one of Shakespeare’s finest plays, Twelfth Night is a raucous comedy of mistaken identity. When a shipwreck separates twins Sebastian and Viola in a foreign land, each thinks the other has died. Viola disguises herself as a boy to enter the service of Duke Orsino, who sends her to woo the lady Olivia on his behalf. Olivia rejects Orsino, but falls in love with the disguised Viola. Viola, however, loves Orsino. When Viola’s twin Sebastian is rediscovered, hijinks ensue!

The production will utilize Shakespeare’s text but set the play in a modern, upper class New England beachfront setting, highlighting the play’s themes in context of contemporary issues surrounding identity politics, cultural assimilation, and classism.
