Enhance Your Major with a Customized Music Minor: Explore, Create, and Excel

Students from all majors may participate in music department ensembles and courses, however those with additional scholarly and musical interest may choose the music minor to complement their major program of study.  Applied music lessons, ensembles, studies in music theory and history, education, therapy, technology, production, and musical styles are a small part of departmental offerings available to the music minor. 

With an assigned music advisor, design a minor program tailored to your interests to enhance and augment your Westfield undergraduate experience.

Course Requirements

Program Requirements Music Minor - 23 Credits

Entrance into the Music Minor requires an audition.

Required:

 

  • (4 semesters at 0.5 credits per semester)*Students may take a piano proficiency exam to waive piano class requirements. 

Ensemble Requirement - 2 Credits

Four semester of participation in one of the following ensembles, as assigned by the department, to run concurrently with four semester of applied lessons:

  • CCGS Orchestra

Electives:

9 credit hours from the following, or other courses approved by the department chair:

  • Up to Two Additional Ensembles (other than required) Credits: 1
Note:

Performance on Departmental Recitals is optional at the discretion of the Applied Instructor.
